Frequently Asked Questions

Here are some common questions and answers. Please read the Rules of Play for a full understanding of the terms and conditions of the BREATHE EASY raffle. And most importantly, please play responsibly.

 

THE BASICS

Q: What is a 50/50 raffle?

A: In a 50/50 raffle, half of the ticket revenue goes to the winning ticket holder, and half goes to the benefiting charity. Traditionally, participants purchase physical tickets (which contain numbers), and there is a physical draw of the numbers to determine the winner. 50/50 raffles are especially popular at sporting events.


Q: How is the BREATHE EASY raffle different?

Unlike other raffles you may have participated in, this raffle is all electronic, which means that qualifying adults from all over Ontario can play and support the work of The Lung Association - Ontario together!  Instead of physical tickets, you will be emailed your “numbers”.

 

 

HOW IT WORKS

Q: Who can participate in the BREATHE EASY raffle?

A: Prior to the purchase of a ticket, you will be required to verify your eligibility and that the information is complete and accurate.

Players must be:

  • Over 18 years of age at time of ticket purchase
  • In the province of Ontario at the time of purchase (you do not need to be a resident, but you must be physically present when you complete the transaction)

Players must NOT be:

  • An employee, board member, contractor, etc. of The Lung Association – Ontario (and their household members)
  • An employee of the 50/50 raffle infrastructure supplier (and their household members)
  • An employee of the Alcohol Gaming Commission of Ontario

Q: What are the odds of winning?

A: The odds of winning are based on the quantity of numbers sold throughout the contest period.

Q: When and how does the draw take place?

A: The draw takes place at The Lung Association – Ontario office on the afternoon of September 30, 2019. Two staff members will select the winning number using the EMT terminal – that is, the Event Manager terminal, a computer-controlled system designed by Canadian Bank Note for conducting 50/50 Draws (including, but not limited to the electronic ticket checkers)

An email will be sent to the winner, and the winner’s name will be posted on lungontario.ca on October 1.

Q: Can I purchase tickets more than once?

A: Yes!  You are free to make more than one purchase throughout the contest period.

Q: How will you contact the winner?

A: An email will be sent to the winner. The winner will then contact The Lung Association – Ontario to claim the prize. S/he will provide government-issued ID to prove their identity. They will be paid by cheque.  The prize must be claimed within six months of the draw.

 

 

TROUBLESHOOTING

Q: I purchased my ticket(s) through breatheeasyraffle.ca, but didn’t receive them in my email. What do I do?

A: If you purchased your 50/50 ticket but did not receive your numbers, please contact info@lungontario.ca and one of our team members will re-send you your numbers. As long as your transaction completed successfully, your numbers will still be part of the draw.

 

 

SUPPORTING THE LUNG ASSOCIATION - ONTARIO

Q: Will I receive a tax receipt?

A: No. A purchase of a raffle ticket is not a donation. According to Canada Revenue Agency regulations, it is not eligible for a charitable tax receipt.

Q: I would like to make a separate donation to The Lung Association – Ontario. How?

A: Visit our site to make a monthly or one time donation. Eligible donations will receive a tax receipt.
